Thursday, March 26, 2009 Tihar this Saturday!
Tihar is just two days away, and the excitement is building!
We have some wonderful performers for Tihar, including a spoken word performance by Starr Chung of Between Us Bois, a traditional Nepalese dance by Aditi Sapkota and Sunita Bhandary, a Bollywood dance lesson by Anita Sharma, and a very special performance by the mesmerizing Mesma!
Remember that Tihar is free to attend and open to all -- so bring family, friends, and anyone who likes to have fun.
Monday, March 16, 2009 Everyone Matters: Dignity and Safety for Transgender People
This moving video from our friends at GLAD allows the viewer to hear from transgender people first-hand about their lives and makes a powerful case for the passage of transgender-inclusive anti-discrimination and hate crimes laws in Massachusetts and beyond. Visit glad.org for more info.
Thursday, March 12, 2009 Project 10 East and MASALA present Tihar
Join Project 10 East Inc. and MASALA on Saturday, March 28, from 1-4 pm at the Central Congregational Church in Jamaica Plain for Tihar, a festival of South Asian culture and cuisine, to benefit the Blue Diamond Society, the only organization for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender citizens in the nation of Nepal.
The Blue Diamond Society works to defend the human rights of GLBT Nepalese and provides counseling and health services, with a particular focus on HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment. Thanks in part to their tireless efforts, Nepal is now the only country in South Asia to allow same-sex marriage and to recognize a third gender.
Tihar will be alcohol-free and open to all ages, with with a focus on addressing GLBT and allied young people. Through performances and speakers, we will explore the beauty and variety of South Asian cultures and the struggle for GLBT human rights in the region. A reception will follow the program, with South Asian music and traditional food and beverages.
All proceeds from Tihar benefit the Blue Diamond Society.

With a crowd estimated at 100 and more than $1,000 in donations, our Winter Social was a terrific success. Everyone had a great time, and we had an opportunity to meet and talk with many wonderful members of our community. Our thanks go out to our hosts, 28 Degrees, and to everyone who attended and supported our organization. Here are just a few photos:
